Abstract: This talk focuses on Sturm–Liouville eigenvalue problems. We derive the precise asymptotic behavior of the first eigenvalue on the jump set. It turns out that such asymptotics depend only on the equation coefficients near the endpoints. As an application to nonlinear propagation phenomena, we investigate the monotonicity of the first eigenvalue with respect to the parameter appearing in both the differential equation and boundary conditions, and obtain the infimum of the parameter ensuring this monotonicity.
