Title:  Rigidity and Lyapunov stability of plane ideal flows

Abstract: I will review some classical results on the Lyapunov stability of 2D ideal fluids, including Arnold’s EC method, Burton’s stability criterion, and their applications. I will then introduce a recent stability result for steady flows in a finite periodic channel, which provides a class of orbitally stable, non-shear flows. When discussing stability, we also obtain some rigidity results as byproducts.
